Because you’ve given no information about the circumstances at the time File Explorer switched to the Win10 UI, it’s difficult to offer help. Did you make changes to the registry yourself, or was there a puff of purple smoke and it changed miraculously by itself? I’m going to assume you either made changes to the registry yourself, or you ran a utility such as SwitchExplorer. If you changed the registry yourself, I can’t safely offer advice. If however you did run SwitchExplorer, simply run it again, and choose the Win11 File Explorer.
Discord: crypton74: I didnt use switchexplorer or any other utility to change how explorer looks, i tried just now to switch back to w11 UI with switchexplorer and it did not work sadly
There are reports starting in September 2026 of Windows 11 systems unexpectedly reverting to the Windows 10 style Explorer following the latest updates, including build 26200.9457
This might be the cause of your issue, so if you can live with it for now, wait a week or two for Microsoft to drop a fix for it. Although Microsoft haven’t yet acknowledged the problem themselves, they have already been issuing rapid follow-up fixes for problems introduced by the updates. I would fully expect Microsoft to address a genuine Explorer regression asap.
Discord: crypton74: seems windows update were the problem but the timing with winutil made it seem like it was related to that, thanks for the pointers ! i woudnt have thought to check around there to fix the issue but its over now
