Here’s what happened to me today while installing a software app using the Utility.
I was watching your video on Windows Utility and so, using Powershell, I started the online Windows Utility app. I chose one program and installed it - LibreWolf.
Then I chose to see the “Installed Apps” section and of course it found (16) apps that were already on my PC. As I scrolled down looking at the (16) apps that it had found, there was one app I saw that I liked and so I chose it and clicked the “Install Apps” button. Immediately I saw my mistake - the Windows Utility began finding, downloading, and installing ALL of those apps, all but one of which were already on my system!
There was no Cancel button. I could not Close the program. I couldn;t find it in Task Manager, in hopes of Ending its task. At this point, the Utility was on step 5/17 of the install process. So I began shutting down programs and when I shut down Powershell, it ended the Utility. Then I rebooted and headed here to make a suggestion. I have not yet taken the time to check all my apps and see which ones, if any, were installed on top of the already exisiting, and whether or not their configuratons and personal preference settings have been changed. Of course, I realize this was my fault due to inattention and I don;t blame the Windows Utility, I make the following change receommendations.
There is another similar program out there (name of app goes unmentioned - but written by a South African programmer). This app, when you select many apps (or even just 1 app) to install, and then click “Install Selected Apps”, opens a small window listing all of the apps you’re asking it to install, and you must click on OK before the process starts. It’s a failsafe I suppose. Can you add something like that?
Also, is there anyway you can add a “Cancel” operation button that would interrupt a process like I had happen to me? I’m not a programmer, but I suppose a cancel operation button could cause disruption of a program right in the middle of its install, but I would rather have that than have all programs and preference settings restored to default.
Anyway, long story but short suggestions - An Are You Sure? button and a Cancel button. Thanks for considering.
EDITED TO ADD: Chris, I like the program and thank you for writing it. It’s clean and neat. Now… I’m going back in because I never got to see the “Tweaks” and other sections!
